Counseling Services
Families, Couples, and Individuals
Karen works with adults (individuals and couples) and families. “I enjoy seeing children and parents as their issues get resolved,” Karen explains. “Children gain confidence and there is a joyful relief in the parents.” She says adults obtain insight into their situation or marriage, and gain coping skills. Overall the whole family functions better because of counseling.

Play Therapy
During play therapy, Karen relates with children in a non-directive way. She is present with the child as he or she encounters the play room, meets the child where he or she is, then reflects back as they interact.
Many children Karen encounters in this setting have been abused or traumatized. Because of this they feel a lack of control. She does not force any type of intervention on the child, but gives them opportunity to develop intrinsic feelings of control, empowerment and mastery. Children aged 3-10 benefit most from play therapy. This summer Karen will teach a two hour lecture on play therapy with foster parents.
